A review of high energy drinks reveals an unhealthy & non-natural problem
Energy drinks are consumed for a variety of reasons, most of all, energy. People need to stay awake. The modern lifestyle is busy and there are too many things keeping people awake at night: mind racing, TV, books, alcohol, social activities, etc. Some people actually drink some of the energy drinks because they like the taste. Whatever the reason, many of these drinks are just flat unhealthy. Read more
Is Monster Energy Drink the Best High Energy Drink on the Market Today?
This post is part of a larger energy drink review for the best energy drink. Many of these drinks give high energy but do not provide natural energy.
Monster is one of the more popular energy drinks on the market today. I have heard multiple people complain that it gives them about an hour of jittery hyper-alertness with a subsequent crash. They often state that their response is to drink another one to avoid, or compensate for, this crash. It makes me wonder if this wasn’t by design to increase sales. The ingredients in Monster place it into the ‘unhealthy’ category as well.
Per serving, Monster contains:
- 100 calories
- 27 grams of carbohydrates (the blue can has 3 grams) – all of them are from sugars
- 1.7mg Riboflavin
- 20mg Niacin
- 2mg Vitamin B6
- 6mcg Vitamin B12
- 180mg Sodium
- 1000mg Taurine
- 200mg Panax Ginseng
- 2500mg ‘Energy Blend’ (L-carnitine, glucose, guarana, caffeine, inositol, glucuronnolactone, maltodextrin)
The standard size of a Monster energy drink can is 16 oz. However, the serving size is 8 oz. There is also a 24 oz size that has 3 servings per can. Part of the problem with Monster is that it is easy to consume too much. I have never met anyone that only drinks one of the 2 (or 3) servings in one can. I would argue that the design of the can suggests that it should all be consumed at the same time.
It is the ingredients and the amount of servings in 1 can that make this one of the bad ones. For an example of a natural, healthy energy drink without the crash caused by many of the ingredients listed above, check out Eiro Energy. It is loaded with antioxidants, natural sugars that provide a low-glycemic index, and natural ingredients which make it one of the healthiest and most effective energy drinks on the market today.
